8 km · ~144 min · 14 stops · free
You will discover the unique nature of the coast: steep, water-washed outcrops, picturesque bays and caps stretching into the lagoon. You will also reach the widest place of the Curonian Spit at the Bulvikis cape! The bird-watching towers on the shore will introduce You to the diversity of the water and the coastal wildlife. Attention! Many waterbirds nest on the coast or in the reeds, so please do not make noise nor approach the nests.
-
Start (Finish)
The coastal hiking trail starts behind the last houses of Nida.
-
The reeds
The reeds were planted to strengthen the shores, but now they have spread to wider areas and are cut down. Birds and other plants need open areas with fresh water.
-
Bird-watching tower
From the tower you can watch the birds nesting and wintering on the lagoon, or simply admire the wide panorama of the Curonian Lagoon.
-
Bulvikis Cape
The Curonian Spit is no less horned (cape-studded) than the elk that live here. The longest of the capes is Bulvikis. It is also the widest point of the Curonian Spit, reaching 3.6 km.
-
Bulvikis rest area
The benches on the coast offer the great views. There are also two rest areas with fireplaces - in Bulvikis Bay and "Rožių krūmas" near Preila.
-
Bird-watching tower
From the tower you can watch the birds nesting and wintering on the lagoon, or simply admire the wide panorama of the Curonian Lagoon.
-
Reclining viewing bench
Once you have covered half the way, a wonderful resting spot awaits you. Comfortably settled on a huge reclining bench, you will be able to admire the lagoon panorama, watch the waterbirds, or simply enjoy the natural sounds surrounding you.
-
Coastal sand
The sand at the lagoon also came from the sea. The capes appeared after the dunes were blown off. That’s why here are no high dunes next to the capes.
-
The shores
Waves and ice affect the shores. The fallen trees become a natural shore protection. Beavers also make a contribution to the shore management.
-
Viewing bench "Chair for two"
You can admire the nature, survey the lagoon-shore surroundings of Preila, or simply catch your breath by climbing onto the 2-metre-high viewing bench.
-
Alternative trail
Travel along the coast, if the water level is low. When the water level rises, follow the directions to pass the wetland on the bike path and then return to the coast.
-
Rest area "Rose Bush"
Stopping at the "Rose Bush" rest area, you will be able to rest after the conquered heights of the Curonian Spit. This is a great place for a picnic, and the safe fire pit will even let you treat your family or friends to a hearty lunch.
-
Preila on the horizon
It is one of the most beautiful settlements on the spit, which can still be called a fisherman village. Here you will find traditional local smoked fish, which you can enjoy in one of the rest areas.
-
Preila Dune
Via the newly built comfortable stairs you will easily reach the summit of Preila Dune. Walking along the wooden boardwalk installed here, you will be able to admire the wide panorama of the lagoon, the sea and the forests of the Curonian Spit.
